Our Work

Programs for a Healthier Somalia

The Somali Diabetes Foundation works across communities, healthcare settings, and institutions to strengthen diabetes prevention, awareness, screening, care, research, education, advocacy, and support.

Turning awareness into action

Diabetes affects individuals, families, communities, and health systems. SDF develops and supports practical programs that respond to the needs of people at risk of diabetes and those already living with the condition.

Our work brings together prevention, early detection, patient support, healthcare professional development, research, advocacy, and community engagement.

Our program approach

We aim to connect communities, healthcare professionals, people living with diabetes, researchers, institutions, partners, and policymakers around a shared goal: improving diabetes prevention and care in Somalia.

Working across the diabetes journey

Effective diabetes action requires more than one intervention. SDF brings complementary activities together to support prevention, early detection, better care, evidence, and stronger communities.

1
Prevent Promote healthy choices, risk awareness, and prevention of type 2 diabetes where possible.
2
Detect Encourage screening, early diagnosis, and appropriate referral to healthcare services.
3
Support Help people living with diabetes and their families access information, education, and support.
4
Strengthen Build knowledge, research capacity, partnerships, and stronger systems for diabetes prevention and care.

No single organization can address diabetes alone.

SDF believes that sustainable progress depends on collaboration between communities, healthcare professionals, government institutions, civil society, researchers, development partners, and people living with diabetes.

We seek responsible partnerships that strengthen the reach, quality, and sustainability of diabetes programs in Somalia.

✓
Healthcare Institutions Collaboration on screening, education, referrals, clinical capacity, and community health initiatives.
✓
Government & Public Health Partners Supporting stronger diabetes prevention, policy, coordination, and health-system responses.
✓
Researchers & Academic Institutions Promoting evidence generation, research collaboration, training, and knowledge dissemination.
✓
Communities & People Living With Diabetes Ensuring that programs remain responsive to real community and patient needs.

Help us expand diabetes prevention, education, and support in Somalia.

Whether you are an individual, healthcare professional, organization, researcher, donor, or potential partner, there are meaningful ways to contribute to the SDF mission.
